Folliculitis Treatment Protocol

Treatment Protocol

This treatment is designed to clear and control folliculitis in the skin of those undergoing chemotherapy. This is a gentle treatment, however many experts consider the majority of anti-cancer therapies are related to cutaneous adverse skin concerns and are linked to skin barrier dysfunction. Therefore it is important to incorporate the soothing and hydrating correctives in the correct step of this protocol,  as well as at home. Maintaining skin barrier function may control the severity of these symptoms.

Note: this treatment protocol is based on anecdotal case studies  and has yet to be proven to be safe and effective when treating patients undergoing chemotherapy by PCA SKIN® research and development. Always consult the patient’s Oncologist prior to treatment.

Detoxifying Pore Treatment (4 fl oz/118.3mL bottle)

1. Facial Wash – Cleanse the area of treatment thoroughly. Rinse and pat dry.

3. Hydrating Toner – Apply with a cotton pad to prep (degrease) the skin. Allow the skin to dry. This product may sting or tingle on some individuals. Assess sensitivity by asking the patient, “On a scale of one to ten, ten being extremely active, how do you rate this sensation (or feeling)?”

4. Detoxifying Pore Treatment – Before using, gently agitate the product. Dispense a nickel-sized amount into your peel dish. Using your small fan brush, apply only onto the areas of treatment. Using gloved hands, gently massage the product into the skin for approximately one to two minutes.

Use the scale of 1 to 10 to gauge sensitivity. Fan the skin to keep the patient cool. Allow the Detoxifying Pore Treatment to penetrate. The skin will have a slightly flushed appearance.

6. Hydrating Serum – Apply a dime-sized amount to the area of treatment to encourage ceramide, essential fatty acid (EFA) and moisture retention, improving the overall function of the skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF).
7. Dual Action Redness Relief – Apply one to two pumps to improve barrier function while also reducing inflammation and redness.
8. CliniCalm® 1% – Apply to the area of treatment to reduce inflammation and redness.
9. Calming Balm – Using a small fan brush or gloved hands, apply a thin layer to the area of treatment.

Hydrate & Protect

10. Silkcoat® Balm and Hydrator Plus Broad Spectrum SPF 30 – Complete the treatment with this combination to calm, hydrate, and protect the skin from UVA and UVB exposure.
11. Hyaluronic Acid Lip Booster – Finish with a liberal application to reduce flaking, improve hydration and dramatically reduce lip lines.

Note: Apply the appropriate PCA SKIN® broad spectrum SPF product prior to applying Hyaluronic Acid Lip Booster to protect the lips from UVA and UVB exposure.
