Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation: Pseudofolliculitis Barbae Regimen

Daily Care Regimen

This protocol is designed for patients who are experiencing and prone to pseudofolliculitis barbae (ingrown hairs) and its resultant PIH. This regimen will help treat and inhibit ingrown hairs by loosening keratinized cells, allowing the hair to release from the impacted follicle and will also help to reduce the production of bacteria. The result is clear, even skin by treating existing and preventing future post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Morning:

  1. Cleanse the skin with Facial Wash Oily/Problem. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
  2. Apply one to two pumps of Anti-Redness Serum to calm skin.
  3. Apply one to two pumps of Pigment Gel® HQ Free to areas of discoloration.
  4. Apply the appropriate PCA SKIN® Broad Spectrum SPF for daytime moisture and broad spectrum UV protection.

Evening:

  1. Cleanse the skin with Blemish Control Bar. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Acne Gel (as needed) to areas of breakouts.
  3. Apply a pea-sized amount of Intensive Brightening Treating: 0.5% pure retinol night.
  4. Apply a small amount of ReBalance for light hydration, and additional skin calming. Silkcoat® Balm may be used in addition to or in place of ReBalance to support extremely dry skin.

Tips: Consider using maximum strength CliniCalm® 1% in seven-day intervals or as directed by a physician to reduce inflammation and irritation.
