When considering whether a patient is old enough to receive professional treatments, it is recommended to wait until the onset of puberty, rather than a specific age, since this will be a different age for each individual and typically coincides with when treatment may become necessary and/or desired. It is wise to start slowly with less active treatments, such as deep pore cleansing, circulation promoting, and proteolytic enzyme treatments.
As tolerance increases, or the condition progresses, it may become necessary to advance to more active treatments, such as salicylic acid treatments blended with anti-inflammatory ingredients, and even gentle, blended chemical peels. These types of treatments will be less traumatic or frightening for adolescents than straight acid chemical peels.
